After the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic, rider Miguel Oliveira ended an extremely positive weekend today, in which showed clear improvements since Friday. The effort and hard work of the Portuguese rider led him to complete confidence on the part of KTM, now riding the controls of a 100% official motorcycle. The Red Bull KTM Tech3 team is now taking the top spots, finishing the Austrian Grand Prix race by an overwhelming 8th place.
Under rainy weather, the Portuguese rookie started the day with a positive Warm-Up session, finishing in 6th position, giving early signs of a promising race.
In the race, the Portuguese rider initially lost a pair of positions, which eventually recovered with the fall that occurred between Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaro. Shortly thereafter, Miguel Oliveira began his fight for more prominent places, overtaking Italian Danilo Petrucci and rider Franco Morbidelli. The superb pace throughout the race also allowed him to reduce the distance for the front riders, leaving behind the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami. In the last couple of turns, the Portuguese rookie was still able to close the gap of more than a second that separated him from Bagnaia, eventually crossing the finish line to less than two tenths of him.
Miguel Oliveira thus achieves his best result of the season, finishing the race as the best KTM. The Portuguese rider now rises 3 places in the championship accounts and is 15th with 26 points.
“Today we had a great race! At first we had some problems and I couldn't go as fast as I wanted to. Moreover, it was a very good race, with several overtakes. My pace was very good, just like yesterday. I am very happy with this result and this first top 10 for me and the team. After all our effort and dedication to understanding the bike, we deserve this result. This turns out to be a positive return for KTM in their home GP. Now we’re going to Silverstone motivated and with positive thinking and feedback.” Miguel Oliveira
The MotoGP championship returns with the twelfth round at Silverstone next weekend on 23, 24 and 25 August.
