MIGUEL OLIVEIRA IN AUSTRALIA FOR THE 18TH TEST OF THE SEASON

After a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Phillip Island circuit, in Australia, will once again host a MotoGP event, this time the 18th in the championship.

Although with an enviable history of victories and podiums achieved in the Moto2 and Moto3 categories, the truth is that the return to Australia is a debut for Miguel Oliveira in the MotoGP category, since in 2019, in the fourth free practice session of the weekend, a violent crash at more than 300 km/hour, caused by strong winds, took the pilot from Almada out of the race at the Australian Grand Prix.

Characterized by a breathtaking environment and overlooking to the ocean, Phillip Island has about 4,400 meters of perimeter, with 12 turns: 7 left and the rest to the right. It is considered one of the fastest and most fluid circuits on the calendar.

2022 then marks the return of Oliveira to the Australian circuit and not even the rookie status takes away the confidence of the Portuguese rider for this MotoGP round.

It should be remembered that Miguel Oliveira arrives at the Australian track with 131 points in his pocket, after a resounding victory in Thailand, which currently gives him 8th position in the overall championship standings – a position that made him return to the top-10 of the most successful riders of the season.

The race, scheduled for Sunday at 4 am, mainland Portugal time, will feature 27 laps, covering a total of 120.1 km covered by the MotoGP riders.
