Among several sports achievements in 2017, Miguel Oliveira had time to beat another record. According to Cision, the Portuguese rider occupies the first position in relation to Advertising Value Equivalent (AVE), being the individual athlete with the highest media return in Portugal, having reached more than 31 million euros last year, related to more than 7,000 news articles. With this result, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider confirms once again the growing trend of both his notoriety and the visibility of motorcycling as a modality that moves crowds, brands and investors around the world.
The biggest areas of this AVE return comes from online and television, radio, specialized and generalista press, not being included social media in this analysis, where the rider has a very active presence.
Specialized sports channels and newspapers continue to be the main drivers of sports media for the Portuguese rider, as well as generalists who also focus on other issues and are already exceeding the annual million-euro mark of AVE.
Miguel Oliveira is the only Portuguese to compete full time in the history of the World Motorcycle Championship, having achieved successive milestones for the sport at national level, with his magnificient performances across borders. Only in 2017, in the Moto2 category, he achieved two pole positions, nine podiums and a hat trick of victories in the last championship events (Australia, Malaysia and Valencia). His solid performance even led him to be distinguished with the best male athlete of the year prize by the Portuguese Sports Confederation.
